Brett Favre

Does anyone else think that Arthur Moats, the Bills linebacker that injured Favre, deserves a medal? I have really had it with the Favre era in the NFL. In my mind, the era ended in 2008 after his debacle with the Jets. I had the pleasure to see Favre while he played for the Jets and he was almost responsible for a potential loss to the Bills. In addition to the decline in his play, Favre staying in the league has proved to be a scumbag. For an NFL player, you have a baby dick... http://deadspin.com/5658206/brett-favres-cellphone-seduction-of-jenn-sterger... Do us all a favor, RETIRE. Actually this time.

Cliff Lee

I understand that to professional athletes thirteen million dollars is pretty much chum change. But c'mon... How can you sign that significantly less of a contract? Honestly, and it's not even like Lee is going to play in Miami or Southern California over New York, he's playing in Philadelphia. People in Philadelphia are ashamed to say that they are from Philadelphia. Cliff Lee signing with the Phillies is nothing short of a Christmas miracle for Phillies fans and it makes people from New York and Dallas's blood boil. New York and Dallas are two places I don't think I would want to mess with. I mean New York is New York and as Jimmy Rollins learned two years ago, if you mess with the Yankees it never ends up well. Last night I watched the "Pony Exce$$" on ESPN's 30 for 30 and people from Dallas are badass and very serious about sports. Let me also be the first to remind you that last season the Phillies traded Lee because they felt he wasn't as good as Halladay. I can't fathom after being burned and insulted by an entire organization and after his stunning World Series performance (besides Chase Utley he was the only one to play well) they say he's only as good as three minor league prospects. As a Yankee fan I promise Lee and the Phillies on behalf of the entire Yankees organization that the battle may have been lost but the war is just beginning.

Who is Matty F?

I suppose introductions are in order. I am Matty F. Currently I split time between beautiful, sunny Winter Park, Florida, and Northern New Jersey. As is necessary in a blog designed for men I should explain my biases, so you all know of my shortcomings and understand my views in my posts. I attended an all-boys Catholic prep schools for high school and one of the most lucratively indulging colleges in the world, Rollins College. Growing up in the little publicized WASPy sections of North Jersey, I consider myself preppy (Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste, Vineyard Vines, J. Crew) and given that my father is an affluent New York City businessman, I also consider myself a bro (alcoholic, spoiled, uses women for sex, etc...).

As for sports, I figure I need to get this out of the way, I mostly favor the local New York teams. I am a die hard Yankees fan. That being said, I do not discourage Red Sox fans from posting on this blog but it should be noted that I abhor nothing more in the world (besides Islamic Extremists) than the Boston Red Sox. It should be noted that I respect Red Sox fans more than any other fans in baseball and New England is like a second home to me. I just am victim of dogmatic hate of the Red Sox. In terms of football, I root for the Giants, though not as fanatically as I support the Yankees. Basketball I am a New Jersey Nets fan, though I assume I will be entering fan free agency very shortly after the Nets make the move to Brooklyn. As for hockey, I was a lifelong Rangers fan. However, the Dolan Family, current owners of the Knicks, are the worst owners in professional sports, so I have dropped that allegiance and moved to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Given my dual location in Central Florida and hot Lightning center Steven Stamkos makes supporting the team a no brainer. Given that Rollins College is a Division II school and most students are unaware that Rollins has sports teams, I have no allegiance to any college teams but there are definitely a few that I favor. In College Football I lean towards Pittsburgh (the school of my father, his sister, and my great grandfather), Penn State (alma mater of my grandfather and brother, my grandfather contributed in writing the history of Penn State football), and Rutgers (my mother's alma mater, local New Jersey school, and for the most part a hilarious excuse for college athletics). College Basketball is all about the Pitt Panthers. I will fight anyone who claims that Pitt Basketball is not a national powerhouse and that Jamie Dixon is not one of the top tier coaches in basketball. I am a boxing enthusiast and have nothing to say about the sport until Mayweather fights (and defeats) Pacquiao.

I hope this affirms my biases and gives everyone a better idea who I am.

Greetings

Hello, and welcome to my new blog entitled Fireside Chats for Men. What am I blogging about? Honestly, I am just trying to give men a place to vent their frustrations and discuss relevant topics in the world of men. I will also answer questions regarding topics pertaining to manlihood. This blog will allow my fellow man to talk and share thoughts.

What aspects of a man's life will we focus on? Fashion will definitely be relevant, as will talking and scrutinizing women, and cars. However, I assume this blog will be mostly dedicated to sports.
Welcome to Fireside Chats for Men... This is the start of a long and beautiful relationship. I can feel it.
